Four Rand West schools raise funds for cash-strapped SPCA

Management of the RandWest SPCA thanked four schools that had taken part in a competition that started this year to raise funds for the NGO.

According to Mischell du Toit, RandWest SPCA committee member, Laerskool Gerrit Maritz Primary, Hoërskool Riebeeckrand, Randfontein High School and Randfontein Primary School participated in the competition.

“We came up with an exciting competition to raise awareness and much-needed funds to keep our fur babies fed, warm, safe and cared for. We dropped off an empty box at each of the participating schools, into which they dropped coins,” Mischell explained.

She added that the school with the heaviest box would be announced the winner soon.

“We were pleasantly surprised at the spunk and enthusiasm with which the schools embraced this competition; the teachers and children made this project an internal competition as well.”

Mischell said some of the schools had the classes make their own containers and were competing amongst themselves to see who could end up with the heaviest container.

“They also had civvies days, which everyone always enjoys. We cannot begin to thank all the headmasters, teachers, parents and all the learners for the fantastic effort and kindness that you showed toward the RandWest SPCA, our staff and our animals. It has been an amazing journey getting to know you. Thank very much for all your efforts,” Mischell said.
