VBS looting scandal: Three former WRDM employees get R50k bail

Three former West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) executives appeared in court in connection with the VBS Mutual Bank looting.

Three former West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) executives appeared in court on Tuesday, June 29 on charges relating to the contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003, and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004.

Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said the trio were arrested early on Monday morning when the members of the Hawks’ serious corruption investigation unit executed warrants of arrest in the ongoing investigation into the VBS Mutual Bank looting. They also conducted a search-and-seizure operation, and seized electronic devices.

The trio were granted R50 000 bail each,” Colonel Katlego said.

The case was postponed provisionally to October 22 for pre-trial preparations.
