Prepare yourself! Mayor announces tighter restrictions for Rand West City

'We are calling upon all of you to act in a responsible manner and help to fight this pandemic' – municipality to Rand West City public.

Management of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has implemented stricter measures to counter the Covid-19 third wave within Rand West City.

This after the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday June 27, placing the country under the adjusted level four lockdown, reportedly following high infection rates caused by the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

In a statement, the senior communications officer at the RWCLM, Godfrey Selepe Moutloali said, “In line with the announcement by the President, the municipality requests the public to limit physical visits to municipal facilities unless it is absolutely necessary to do so.

This is done in order to limit the number of our visitors to less than 10 people inside at any given time as we try to curb the spread of Covid-19 that is currently ravaging our province,” the statement read.

In the same statement, Moutloali said the municipality will be operating with reduced staff members, as they make an effort to minimise the risks and bring down the infection rate.

”Ratepayers are therefore encouraged to pay their municipal bills electronically. The RWCLM banking details are: First National Bank, Cheque account number 62738744045 – or visit the FNB app.

“Please make sure that you correctly give your account number as reference. Alternatively, you may pay using Easy Pay Points accessible at retail stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Spar and other accredited shops near you,” Moutloali added.

He went on to say that residents are assured that the municipality is committed to rendering a good-quality service, and will continue to serve people diligently.

However, we are also calling upon all of you to act in a responsible manner and help to fight this pandemic; we call upon all of us to adhere to all protocols which have proven in the first and second wave that they helped us.”

Moutloali also advised people to take the following precautions to save lives and livelihoods in Rand West City:

• Wear masks at all times
• Keep a safe social distance
• Sanitize hands
• Limit visits and stay indoors as much as possible
