Four serious incidents for Mapogo this past week

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from June 14 to June 20 – from four incidents of housebreaking and theft in Homelake, Hectorton and Helikon Park, to one incident of theft in Greenhills.

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security said five serious incidents were reported for their client base for the period from Monday, June 14 to Wednesday, June 16.

Here is a breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, June 14 at 13:00 – Housebreaking and theft, Freda Street, Homelake

One of their clients alerted Mapogo that thugs attempted to break into his neighbour’s house. On arrival the area was secured and a positive housebreak was discovered. The suspects had fled the area across the railway lines when the owner arrived home. All items were already packed into bags for removal, but due to the alertness of the neighbour the intruders fled the scene without taking any of the goods.

• Monday, June 14 at 17:05 – Housebreaking and theft, McKay Street, Homelake

Thugs broke into the premises where no alarm system is covering the area, and removed several brass taps from the premises still under construction.

• Tuesday, June 15 at 04:28 – Housebreaking and theft, 16th Street, Hectorton

Thugs gained entry onto premises by removing a precast slab from the wall. They broke the lock to the garage where they stole a welding machine and fled the scene. On noticing the break-in the client pressed the panic button. Mapogo responded and assisted the client to secure the premises.

• Tuesday, June 15 at 07:20 – Theft, Convent Street, Greenhills

Thugs attempted to steal cables from the premises, and ran away. Mapogo officers gave chase and managed to arrest one suspect who was handed over to the police for further investigation.

• Wednesday, June 16 at 13:29 – Housebreaking and theft, Moorhen Street, Helikon Park

Thugs forced open the main gate to the premises, then the safety gate at the front door and the front door, and stole a flat-screen TV. They fled the scene.

Ben Willemse, operations manager at Mapogo urged residents always to remain alert when hearing noises that are out of the ordinary, and to raise an alarm.

He warned that one should never exit one’s house to inspect as criminals might be waiting for you.

“Look out for yourself and your neighbour’s property; the more eyes on the ground the smaller chance criminals have to commit crime,” said Willemse.
