Murder suspect’s family hand him over to police

Police commended a family for being selfless and instead of helping their brother evade arrest, they brought him to book to face the full might of the law after a man was stabbed to death.

A 24-year-old man’s family turned him in to the police after another man was stabbed to death in Bekkersdal over the weekend.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the incident happened shortly before midnight on Sunday, June 13.

She explained that the victim, who was also 24 years old, had seen his brother’s girlfriend with the murder suspect and confronted him.

“An argument between the two ensued. The suspect allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The victim was rushed to the Bekkersdal Clinic where he succumbed to his injuries,” Lefakane said.

She added that while the case was being processed at the police station, the suspect’s brothers handed him, with his bloody clothes and the murder weapon, over to the police.

“He was immediately placed under arrest and charged with murder,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

The acting Bekkersdal Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Boitumelo Sigwili commended the family for being selfless and instead of helping their brother evade the arrest, they brought him to book to face the full might of the law for his actions.

“This must be an eye-opener to others that a crime is a crime, no matter who commits it,” Lieutenant Colonel Sigwili concluded.
