In the video two men can be seen stealing a gate motor in broad daylight in Helikon Park. 'Gate motor theft is rising in Randfontein' – warns EPR.

A Facebook video posted by EPR West Rand on Monday, 7 June shows thugs stealing a gate motor from a premises in Helikon Park in broad daylight.

In a spectacular show of teamwork, two men can be seen trying to remove the gate motor with little luck, but eventually after retrieving a tool from the vehicle and using it to free the gate motor, they fled the scene of the crime leaving the resident gate-motorless.

Watch here:

According to Johan Krogh, General Manager of EPR West Rand, the incident took place on Wednesday, 2 June at approximately 12.55pm on Arend Drive in Helikon Park.

He explained that gate motor theft is rising in Randfontein, with four gate motors stolen this past week in Greenhills, Helikon Park, Hillside and Bootha Plots.

“All of the incidents have taken place during the day between 8am and 5pm, and this specific vehicle has been noticed at two of the incidents.”

According to Johan, two men and one woman, presumably the driver, are involved.

He gave the following tips for residents to secure their gate motors:

• Make sure there is a solid plate on the gate in front of the gate motor in a closed position so that a crowbar can’t easily be pushed through the palisade gate.
• Make sure that the gate motor is properly anchored.
• The gate must be designed in such a way that it can’t be lifted when it is closed.
• Anti-theft brackets also help to deter thieves.
• Install and connect a gate alarm to your existing home alarm to notify your security company immediately of tampering.
