Vaccination Roadshow informs people of Mohlakeng

GCIS visited Mohlakeng as part of their Vaccination Roadshow across Gauteng

The National Department of Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) visited the Mohlakeng Taxi Rank (Four Square) as part of their Vaccination Roadshow across Gauteng on Tuesday 1 June.

According to Tshidi Mokoka, Regional Communication Coordinator of the department, the roadshow is part of the integrated communication plan for Covid-19, with the purpose of creating public awareness and educating the masses on the importance of getting vaccinated, “… and to promote and encourage the uptake in vaccine registration across communities in Gauteng,” Mokoka added.

On the day, they partnered with West Rand District Health, which was represented by various health promoters, and members of the ward-based teams whose main aim is to ensure that people of the age of 60 and above were registered.

“The health promoters also shared information about the vaccination sites that people can go to in Randfontein to get the jab, and young people were encouraged to assist parents, grandparents or other elderly people who meet the vaccination criteria to register on EVDS,” she said.

Mokoka said it is unnecessary for the elderly to walk to the sites to register in this cold weather while they can do this in the comfort of their own homes assisted by young people who are techno-savvy.

“During the activation a drama group from Task Communication acted out messages relating to Covid-19 and the vaccination rollout to help people to grasp how easy the process of registering is, and the different methods that are available for doing so,” Mokoka said.
