Meet the Herald’s new sales consultant

Meet Debbie Law, not just the Herald's latest sales recruit but also the walking captain of RandMark, member of Lions International and who knits for abandoned babies and crochets knee rugs for the elderly.

The Herald is privileged to introduce Debbie Law, 60, as their new advertising sales consultant to the community.

Debbie is a born and bred Durbanite. In 2010 she relocated to Gauteng where she first lived in Centurion, and now calls Hectorton her home.

“I have two beautiful kids, a son who lives in London and who made me a granny in 2019, and a married daughter who lives in Centurion. I’m also a granny to two Jack Russels.”

Before joining Caxton on 4 May this year, Debbie worked in IT for 20 years, which according to her was a fantastic journey of constantly learning and adapting to the latest technology.

One of her greatest achievements in life was when she was challenged in 2000 to take part in the Comrades Marathon where she walked 80 percent, ran 20 percent and finished with 21 minutes to spare – to her it felt like she won the race.

“Something that I ticked off on my bucket list is that I learnt how to sail, and in 2006 I did a catamaran sail to Inhambane – a city in Mozambique, which was fantastic.”

Debbie loves new experiences and challenges, and said Caxton is a new direction for her.

According to Debbie, learning that weekly deadlines are critical to the process has been a “challenge initially” but a month into her new role she is delivering a service that is expected of her and it is getting easier to meet deadlines.

“I am grateful for this position and to gain a new skill which I never expected to learn in my life. The saying that ‘you are never too old to learn’ is indeed true!”

She explained that with her job she would recommend various sizes of advertising space to potential and existing clients by taking their budget into consideration.

“I am looking forward to meeting with clients face to face, travelling within my jurisdiction and building a good rapport and trust relationship with all.”

Debbie is a Lion and since 2017 she has been a Member of Lions International and actively assists those in need in her community via the Lions of Krugersdorp. She is also the walking captain at the RandMark Walk, Cycle and Running Club, knits for abandoned babies, and crochets knee rugs for the elderly.

She is a real ‘people’s person’ who has a positive outlook on life. She hopes that it shows in the way she deals with her colleagues, her clients, friends and family. She described herself as very open, transparent, very caring and that she would go to the end of the earth to make a bad experience better.

“I want the community to know that my phone is always on and that I will give them the very best service and advice when they use Caxton. I regard myself as a Teiner – community is very important to me.”
