Roads in Rand West City get attention

Smart Mobility Weekends campaign comes to Rand West City.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport visited various areas in Rand West City on Saturday, 29 May to rehabilitate the roads as part of its Smart Mobility Weekends campaign.

According to Melita Madiba, spokesperson for the Gauteng MEC for Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, #SmartMobilityWeekends are about bringing relief to road users while major rehabilitations are still in the pipeline.

Madiba added the initiative is in line with the Gauteng Provincial Government’s vision of Growing Gauteng Together (GGT2030) through the delivery of a world-class road infrastructure that promotes economic growth, social cohesion and inclusivity.

“As part of its contribution to the GGT2030 vision, the Department has cast its focus on improving roads and transport infrastructure to facilitate the smart, convenient and efficient movement of people and goods,” Madiba said.

The campaign focused on pothole patching, vegetation clearing, road markings, replacing and installing signage, and fixing traffic lights.
