Police kick off Child Protection Week in Hillside

The Randfontein Police visited a day care centre to educate little ones about their rights.

Members of the Randfontein Police kicked off Child Protection Week by visiting the Edu-care Day Care Centre in Hilldside on Monday, 31 May.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, the visit was aimed at informing children about issues such as child labour, child abuse, kidnapping, trafficking and children going missing.

“We interacted and engaged in fun activities. The children were informed that they should report to their parents and teachers if they have been touched on ‘special private body parts’,” Hendricks said.

The children were also educated not to talk to strangers, not to take sweets from strangers, and to always inform their grown-ups where they are.
