Another five serious incidents in town this past week – Mapogo crime report

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from 24 to 28 May – from a housebreaking on Union Street to an attempted motor vehicle theft and an arrest on David Street.

It was another busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security with several serious incidents occurring in Randfontein.

Ben Willemse, operations manager at Mapogo, said five incidents were reported for their client base for the period from 24 to 28 May.

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, 24 May at 00.07am – Attempted theft of a motor vehicle and an arrest on David Street, Homelake
Intruder gained entry into the premises and attempted to steal the owner’s vehicle. The owner pressed his panic button, and on arrival of the Response Units the area was searched. One suspect was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

• Tuesday, 25 May at 8.49am – Attempted theft and an arrest on Jacaranda Street, Homelake
Thug attempted to steal scrap metal from the premises when he was caught red-handed by the client. He attempted to flee and sustained a deep laceration to his arm whilst attempting to evade arrest. The thug was apprehended on the outside by Mapogo Response officers, and the police and medical services were summoned.

• Wednesday, 26 May at 6.53am – Attempted housebreaking on Beatrice Street, Homelake
The business owner noticed that a burglar bar at the rear of the premises was forced and reported the incident to Mapogo. It was established that no entry was gained into the shop and nothing was taken, and that the intruder/s left the premises after they attempted to force open the exterior window safety bar.

• Thursday, 27 May at 10pm – Attempted theft of a gate motor on 16th Street, Hectorton
The owner heard noises at his gate and noticed that thugs were attempting to steal the gate motor. The owner made alarm and the thugs fled the scene.

• Friday, 28 May at 5am – Housebreaking on Union Street, Randgate
When intruders forced open the safety gate and front door, the alarm was activated and they fled the scene.

“Stay safe during the winter times as it’s getting darker earlier and criminals use this opportunity to lurk around looking for possible soft targets,” said Ben.

He explained that people should never drop their guard, always remain vigilant, and report anything that looks out of place.

“Have your alarm serviced regularly or when you suspect that your alarm may be faulty, as this can reduce unnecessary false alarms.”
