SPCA needs help: Business owner leading from the front

A local business owner has urged businesses to help to save the RandWest SPCA, saying it's an animal sanctuary that the community needs.

A local business owner is appealing to other businesses to help save the RandWest SPCA from its dire financial situation.

“They need the community’s help; let’s help them,” said Jaco de Clercq of Henry’s Properties.

He said it does not matter how much money or how many items one donates, but every little bit can go a long way to salvage the financially ailing animal sanctuary.

Jaco, who had served on the SPCA committee in previous years said the SPCA was very close to his heart, and it should be protected at all costs.

“We all know that Covid-19 has affected us as humans, but we shouldn’t forget that the SPCA wasn’t spared either,” Jaco added.

While many businesses were affected by the pandemic, those that remained and are in a position to assist must consider helping – that’s why he appealed to them first.

He said helping the SPCA will enable the organisation to sustain itself and remain operational.

“I call on other businesses in town that have managed to get through the effects of Covid-19 to make a contribution so that we can see how we can salvage and save the SPCA. I mean, if people from Rustenburg (North West) come all that way to make a difference surely we, the locals, can make a much a bigger difference,” he said.

Jaco added that he has not only adopted animals from the organisation, but from time to time he allows members of the SPCA to use his premises as a site to raise funds.

“I think people need to know that a dog is not just a pet, it’s a life. Joining this cause will show compassion – the animals also just want to be loved; therefore, we can start doing that by giving back to the SPCA,” Jaco concluded.
