Several serious incidents this past week – Mapogo crime report

Mapogo released its latest crime report for the period from 17 to 23 May – from a robbery on Lot Road to a housebreaking and theft in Helikon Park.

Several incidents occurred in the Randfontein area this past week, according to Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s latest crime report.

Ben Willemse, operations manager at Mapogo, said five incidents were reported for their client base for the period from 17 to 23 May.

“Mapogo continuously focuses on pro-active visibility and crime prevention throughout the Randfontein areas. When noticing suspicious persons or vehicles within your area, don’t approach them on your own. Rather request your security company or the police to attend.”

A breakdown of the crime incidents:

• Monday, 17 May at 12.54pm – Housebreaking and theft on Aasvoël Street, Helikon Park.
Suspects gained entry into the premises by forcing the safety gate and front door open. Household items were stolen from the premises.

• Tuesday, 18 May at 3.11pm – Robbery on Lot Road, Randfontein Central.
Suspects walked into the shop and demanded cash and cigarettes, and fled the scene on foot.

• Thursday, 20 May at 10.45am – Medical emergency on Nightingale Road, Greenhills.
Mapogo responded to a panic signal, and found a 82-year-old man who had suffered from cardiac arrest and unfortunately passed away.

• Friday, 21 May at 11.28pm – Malicious damage to property on Strydom Street, Randgate.
On arrival of the Response Units it was established that unknown perpetrators had thrown a brick through the client’s window and fled the scene.

• Sunday, 23 May at 00.07am – Trespassing on Ewart Road, Homelake.
Suspects gained entry to the client’s premises and when the owner noticed them. a warning shot was fired. The suspects fled the scene.
