FJL Wells marks Africa Day!

Staff members and learners of FJL Wells Primary Mine School celebrated Africa Day.

FJL Wells Primary Mine School staff members and learners celebrated Africa Day by proudly wearing their respective cultural attires on Tuesday, 25 May.

Sello Mphatswe, the acting principal and spokesperson said it was important for everyone to show their heritage while they share one lineage, which is simply being an African.

“By doing this, we’d like to encourage our learners to be proud of their identity, which is being an African on the African continent. This is because we value what our country and others on the continent have to offer.

“Since we have learners from neighbouring countries we view all the countries as one United Africa – we are one!” Mphastwe said.

According to the South African government, “Africa Day is intended to celebrate and acknowledge the successes of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU, now the AU) from its creation on May 25, 1963, in the fight against colonialism and apartheid, as well as the progress that Africa has made while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces in a global environment”.
