‘Seconds saves lives, clean your hands’

Life Robinson Private Hospital recently commemorated World Hand Hygiene Day.

Life Robinson Private Hospital recently commemorated World Hand Hygiene Day which raises awareness and promotes the culture of hand hygiene.

Melanie van Staden, spokesperson for Life Robinson Private Hospital said the theme for this year’s World Hand Hygiene Day was ‘achieving hand hygiene at the point of care’, and the slogan was ‘seconds save lives, clean your hands’ which during the current pandemic is a fitting and important message.

“This heightens the importance of stopping the spread of the virus by washing your hands with soap and water, or sanitizing them with alcohol hand rub.”

Life Healthcare initiated an internal campaign to observe the day and invited all its hospitals and facilities to commemorate clean hands by holding a one-minute hand-clapping session, which was also intended to thank and recognise their nurses and healthcare professionals for the critical role they play in delivering quality patient care.

To commemorate World Hand Hygiene Day, Life Robinson Private Hospital created general awareness among the public regarding the correct handwashing technique. Visitors were educated regarding this technique and received a pamphlet with the handwashing steps, and sanitizer.

Melanie added that hand hygiene continues to play an essential part in infection prevention and control, and is not new in the healthcare sector.

“At Life Healthcare we take infection prevention seriously, and we ensure the highest standards of protection in our hospitals and facilities. On this day, I would like to thank our nurses, infection and prevention specialists and healthcare professionals for fostering a culture of hand hygiene within our hospitals and facilities. We honour all of you for your contributions and for keeping each other, our doctors and patients safe,” said hospital manager, Dr Marinda Overbeek.
