Time to say goodbye: 11 Randfontein Police staff retire

Eleven staff members of the Randfontein Police bid SAPS and the public farewell in Krugersdorp as they announced their retirement.

Management of the Randfontein Police bid farewell to 11 staff members at a ceremony held at Usambara in Krugersdorp on Friday, 7 May.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, some of the members now retired had been in the police service for as long as between 28 and 36 years.

“The ceremony was held to praise them for their contribution towards making residents feel safe – for people to live in peace and harmony,” she said.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander said while it was sad to say goodbye to some of the long-serving members it was also a delighting moment to highlight the good things they’ve done in the police.

“We are very proud of what these men and women in blue have done. Not only did they carry out their duties with integrity and dedication, but they remained committed to the profession for decades. We acknowledge that their path was not an easy one, but we’re glad that they’ve led by good example to others. We thank them for what they’ve done for the organisation,” Manamela said.

Manamela also wished the men and women the best in their future endeavours and their aspirations.

“They leave behind a legacy that many of us can aspire to. It was a pleasure working with them, and they will be missed,” Manamela added.

Members were also given items such blankets and certificates for the period they’ve served, as a token of appreciation by the management.

These are the members who are to retire (ranks and numbers of years served as well): Colonel Rand Thai Makgatho (34 years); Colonel Motshidisi Maria Filita (36 years); Lieutenant Colonel Mphostoli Elliot Mbele (35 years); Captain Dithebele Lazarus Malema (34 years); Warrant Officer Elliot Tlali Makunye (35 years); Typist Veronica Ann Loots (27 years); Captain Sithembiso Goodwill Mdlalose (33 years); Mariska van Deventer (30 years); Foreman Johanna Dikeledi Molote (32 years); Warrant Officer Pule Ernest Phakedi (34 years); and Warrant Officer Ndoneni Volofu (34 years).
