A local hip-hop artist wants his message to be heard in all the corners of the earth.

The 29-year-old Ngwako Kekana, aka Kinko, said by doing what he loves he aims to change the hearts of those wanting to give up; his ultimate goal, however, is to be internationally renowned.

The Limpopo-born artist, now a Bekkersdal resident, has been in the music game since the tender age of 16.

“My first single titled Ditsosi was released in 2012. Ditsosi in my mother tongue (Selobedu and Pedi dialect) means ‘ants’ in English.”

Kinko said the single spoke about how woman carry themselves with pride, emulating ants in their movement; the song is about the beautiful way women walk – showing their femininity.

“In the song I liken a woman to an ant because when it’s hot, you’ll notice that ants lift their tails off the ground, so that’s how I see women sometimes; but this is not a way to demean them, it is simply to draw similarities,” Kinko explained.

Since then he has produced songs about hardship that he wants people to overcome – songs to give people hope.

Kinko said he draws inspiration from famous musical groups and artists such as Teargas, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, to mention a few.

“I am proud to have been nominated for the 2020 Mama Awards. But my ultimate goal is to travel the world; share my talent with those who appreciate artists and draw life lessons from it. Most importantly, I want to motivate people and make them see that they can be what they aspire to be, as long as they believe in themselves,” Kinko said.
