Possible water shortage for Rand Water customers

Rand Water would like to encourage consumers to use water sparingly while reservoir levels return to normal operating levels.

Rand Water, which supplies water to Krugersdorp, Randfontein, Roodepoort and surrounding areas, has announced that their supply areas could experience a water shortage in the short term.

“On Thursday, 29 April Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant near Vanderbijlpark experienced a power supply failure that affected 60 percent of the Plant’s water pumping capacity. The trip occurred as a result of an Eskom supply cable failure adjacent to the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant. Eskom was able to restore power late in the afternoon, and the plant resumed pumping at 5.18pm. The incident has resulted in the depletion of the reservoirs’ level to below our normal operating levels. Rand Water would like to encourage consumers to use water sparingly whilst the reservoirs return to normal,” Justice Mohale, Rand Water media representative explained.
