Close to 130 arrests in Bekkersdal, Westonaria police operation

128 suspects were arrested during the Operation Okae Molao

The Operation Okae Molao conducted in Bekkersdal and Westonaria on Thursday 29 April resulted in 128 suspects being arrested.

According Sergeant Mulalo Ndou, spokesperson of West Rand District Police, suspects were arrested for the following offences: murder and attempted murder (four); rape and attempted rape, and sexual assault (three); assault and domestic violence, and assault GBH (31); robbery and housebreaking (five); theft and attempted theft (six); possession of drugs (one); malicious damage to property (seven); fraud (five); intimidation (two); reckless or negligent driving (three); contempt of court (three); illegal mining (one); and animal cruelty (one).

“Undocumented foreign nationals and other suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga; operating unlicensed liquor outlets; and money laundering. All suspects are due to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” Ndou said.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner, who applauded the law-enforcement agencies involved in the operation said, “We will continue to stamp our authority as the state to ensure that law and order are maintained within the community of the West Rand”.
