Woman raped, robbed at gunpoint – Man wanted

A 22-year-old woman was raped and robbed at gunpoint at a hiking spot near the N12 recently – police have identified one man.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) has released an ID kit of a man wanted for allegedly robbing and raping a woman in Westonaria.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the 22-year-old victim was raped and robbed at gunpoint at about 6.45pm on Monday, 29 March.

“She allegedly was on her way to Potchefstroom in the North West, hiking on the side of the road when she noticed the suspect standing by the road, whom she assumed was also a hiker. The suspect then used a firearm to force the victim into a nearby shack to rape and rob her of her money and a cellphone,” Lefakane said.

The suspect is estimated to be 37 years old, is slenderly built and 1,6m tall.

He has a dark complexion, and was wearing a brown and blue hoodie, with a beanie.

“The N12 is one of the crime hotspots in the West Rand region. We therefore urge the public to avoid the area as criminals could pretend to be hiking only to pounce on unsuspecting victims,” Lefakane said.
