Three injured, child critical, when knocked over by taxi

Taxi hits three on the R501 in Carletonville over the weekend, leaving three people injured – 4-year-old in critical condition.

Three pedestrians were injured, among them a four-year-old boy who sustained critical injuries when they were knocked over by a taxi on the R501 in Carletonville on the far West Rand on Friday night, 23 April.

Ineke van Huyssteen of ER24 said when their paramedics arrived at the scene shortly before 7pm, an off-duty medic, as well as a bystander, were found on the scene assisting the patients.

“It was found that the boy had sustained critical injuries. The woman and the man had both sustained moderate injuries. ER24 paramedics treated the patients at the scene before transporting them to hospital. Once at the hospital, the little boy was airlifted by medical helicopter to Sunshine Hospital for further medical care.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to the paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations.
