Boyfriend arrested, woman hospitalised after brutal assault

The victim was found bruised and unconscious, and was transported to a local hospital.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 20 April after he had assaulted his girlfriend brutally.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, a 30-year-old unconscious woman had to be transported to Leratong Hospital on Monday, 5 April after she was beaten by her boyfriend in Rangaka Street, Mohlakeng.

Hendricks added that the suspect’s mother contacted the victim’s mother and told her to go and fetch her child. She found her daughter bruised with blood on her mouth, lying on the ground unresponsive.

“The family took her to Leratong Hospital where they found that she had suffered severe injuries to her upper body. She was subsequently transferred to Carletonville Hospital. The victim is not in a good state of mind because of her injuries, and she is unable to walk,” said Hendricks.

Hendricks added that violence against women remains a serious problem, with women across the world falling victim to physical, emotional and sexual assault every day.

“We are asking the public to come forward and report gender-based violence rather than keeping quiet. Let us rather speak out than bury our loved ones,” said Hendricks.
