Toekies NGO determined to keep on feeding the needy

An NGO in Toekomsrus again recently opened their hearts by serving hot meals to at least 145 people in need.

A warm meal is all it takes to show your support for the needy.

This is according to management of Fepa Moagisani, an NGO in Toekomsrus that was founded in July last year in the midst if the pandemic. The organisation has made it their mission ever since to relieve poverty among those hit hard by the effects of the lockdown, and it is still going strong.

“It was perfect timing for us to reach out to others affected by lockdown as a result of the pandemic. We believe in loving and caring for our neighbour, and giving a helping hand to those in need,” said Boitumelo Maimane, co-founder of the NGO.

She said having been in existence for only nine months, they’ve made a huge difference already.

Just recently, they again opened their hearts by donating 85 pairs of shoes to primary schools including Toekomsrus Primary School, Randfontein Primary School and Hartzstraat Primary School.

“In our latest outreach on Saturday, 10 April we donated 145 warm meals of rice, pork stew and pumpkin to the people of Toekomsrus,” Maimane said.

However, she added, initiatives like these wouldn’t be possible without the NGO’s 12 dedicated volunteers – whom she also thanked.

Maimane said while they’ve been to areas such as the informal settlement at the Randfontein dumping site and Robin Park in Block A, more intervention and support are needed.

“We are now looking to do more school-based projects that will enable us to help children with homework and life skills. We are looking for people who have a heart for serving the community, and we greatly appreciate all food donations as well as cash donations that can be used towards our hot meal outreaches.

“If someone has something that can greatly benefit a neighbour in need, such as clothes, food and even cash, we would be grateful for their help,” Maimane said.
