Police enforce the law in the CBD and surrounding areas

Those who were caught were found in possession of stolen property, gold-bearing material, drugs and dangerous weapons.

Twenty-four suspects were arrested during a law-enforcement operation by the Randfontein Police on Friday, 12 March in the Randfontein CBD and surrounding areas.

The Randfontein Police spokesperson, Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, said the operation sought to make sure that people kept adhering to the Disaster Management Act regulations to keep the spread of Covid-19 under control.

Hendricks said among the offenders were mostly those in possession of suspected stolen property (two); of gold-bearing material (three); of drugs (five); and of dangerous weapons (two). Two people were arrested for drunk driving and two undocumented foreign national were also caught.

“Illegally sold liquor valued at R3 000 was also seized from an unlicensed outlet. All the suspects will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon,” Hendricks said.
