A total of 750 school uniforms and dignity packs were donated to three schools in Rand West City by the MEC of Social Development, Morakane Mosupyoe on the first official day of the new school year on Monday, 15 February.

The donation was part of the Bana Pele and Gauteng Provincial Government’s school readiness campaign. The three schools that received the donations were Itumeleng Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) in Westonaria (250 school uniforms and 50 dignity packs), Phendulwazi Primary in Mohlakeng (300 school uniforms and 60 dignity packs) and Bulelani Primary in Mohlakeng that received 200 school uniforms and 50 dignity packs.

Mosupyoe said the initiative was aimed at assisting those who are less fortunate, by ensuring that all learners are at the same level

As Social Development, we are custodians of the Children’s Act, therefore we are responsible for the care and protection of children. As schools reopen, we have a responsibility to lend a hand were possible and as the academic year starts, we want our learners to concentrate on learning,” Mosupyane said.

She praised the school for continuing to comply with Covid-19 safety protocols.

“We also encourage our learners to study hard despite the pandemic we face, because education is the key that will open doors for you in future. Government will continue to give the necessary support,” she added.
