Man breaks into house, rapes woman

He has already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates' Court and charged with four counts of rape – police.

A 51-year-old woman was raped after a man had broken into her house in Bekkersdal.

According to Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, it is alleged the suspect aged 32 broke into the victim’s home while she was sleeping early on Tuesday morning, 2 February.

After the ordeal, the victim told her neighbour what had happened and the victim was subsequently accompanied to the police station. A case of rape was opened by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and a member took the victim to a clinic immediately,” Lefakane said.

She added while on their way to the clinic, the victim spotted the perpetrator and alerted the police officer she was with.

“The suspect was arrested. He has already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4 February and charged with four counts of rape,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Phumelele Matamela, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the member for swiftly ensuring that the suspect was arrested.

Investigation must always be completed, especially with rape – a prevalent issues in the area. We must work closely with our prosecution team to ensure that we rid our communities of such perpetrators,” Matamela said.
