Dwarskloof residents have been without cellphone reception for more than a month.

This after the cellphone tower in the area is believed either to have been vandalised or tampered with.

One of the residents who complained to the Herald, Simon Barkhuizen, said it doesn’t matter what service provider one is using, there is simply no network coverage in the area.

Residents said for over month, they haven’t enjoyed any reception as a cellphone tower had been tampered with. Photo submitted.

Barkhuizen said since 15 December last year, they’ve had to drive towards town to make calls and get internet. He further complained that this is not only unacceptable but extremely impractical as many work from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is afraid that in case of an emergency, his family may not get the help they may need.

“My mother-in-law is in Benoni and she is unwell. She may die and we won’t even know it,” Barkhuizen said.

“We don’t know what to do anymore because almost everyone in the area has tried to get the problem solved, without success. It’s been over a month already.”

What’s even more upsetting is that they were told the matter would be attended to, but nothing has come of it.
