Expect just two hours of load-shedding at a time in parts of the West Rand

Eskom has anounced that they have engaged with relevant municipalities to move to a two-hour load-shedding schedule from Tuesday, 19 January.

Parts of the West Rand will be moving to two-hour load-shedding schedules from Tuesday, 19 January.

In a statement, Ronel Kotze (CPRP) from Eskom’s Communication and Stakeholder Relations Department said that Eskom in Gauteng and some parts of the North West Operating Unit (OU) will implement load-shedding for two hours in all its areas of supply.

The move from four to two hours of load-shedding is aimed at addressing the unintended consequences that come with the longer supply interruptions, particularly during the resurgence of Covid-19.”

They are urging electricity users to check with their supplier if load-shedding continues for more than two hours.

The areas that will be affected are Cosmo City, Diepsloot, Soweto, Merafong Local Municipality areas, Mogale City Local Municipality areas and Randfontein Local Municipality areas.

The statement said that the implementation of load-shedding is vital to protect a vulnerable electricity supply system.

The supply of electricity remains key as an essential service to health facilities and other strategic role players that are critical in the fight against the coronavirus.”

The affected municipalities have been engaged by Eskom, and the power utility will also effect the changes where load-shedding is being implemented to the municipalities’ direct customers.

“The revised load-shedding schedules will be available on Eskom’s website at https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za as well on the respected municipal websites.
