Home as Christmas gift for two families

OneWingz of Change and Mix 93.8 FM donated two homes for two families in Westonaria.

One Wingz of Change and Mix 93.8 FM recently collaborated to donate two houses to the Mthimkhulu and Tshazi families located in Borwa, Westonaria.

This was part of the Build a Home in 67 Minutes for Mandela Initiative.

According to Natasha Laird, coordinator of the project, a man by the name of Quiet Mthimkhulu told the touching story of Nontsikelelo Tshazi on Mix 93.8 FM.

“Quiet told us about a woman who has gone through so much including being a victim of gender-based-violence – that is how she was selected. What you do is you email One Wingz for Change and nominate a person. There are such caring people out there who heard about what we were doing and came on board,” Laird said.

Tshazi, who has been living in a shack for 27 years in Ivory Park, told the Herald she couldn’t believe it.

I would like to thank Quiet for telling my story. For so many years, I had a deep and dark secret until I shared it with him. I’d like to thank One Wingz of Change and Mix 93.8 FM for coming together and doing this,” Tshazi said.

Mthimkhulu added that he didn’t know that by telling the story of Tshazi, he was helping himself in the process.

According to Laird, Mthimkhulu, who is a good Samaritan himself lived in Hillbrow and he talked about how he shared his bachelor flat with four other family members. He too received a home of his own that will be neighbouring Tshazi’s house.

I simply told her story in a letter and people who were sponsoring the project notified me that there was enough land and building material for my own home. I’m still shocked, this is a gift of a lifetime!” an overjoyed Quiet said.

Laird thanked all the sponsors who came on board during the project.
