Police and others roll up their sleeves in support of Korekile Centre

From the municipality to the police rolled up their sleeves to clean the rooms, paint, wash windows and clean at the centre.

Bekkersdal Police along with many other institutions and organisations embarked on a mass cleaning campaign at the Korekile Home for Cerebral Palsied Children in Simunye on Thursday, 3 December to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

They were also joined by representatives of the National Department of Correctional Services, Gauteng Department of Health, Rand West City Traffic Department, South Deep Gold Mine, West Rand District Municipality (WRDM), National Department of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Are Ageng, Victim Friendly Room, Bokamoso Ba Dichaba NGO, and the CPF.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said everyone rolled up their sleeves to clean the rooms, paint, wash windows and clean at the centre.

“We also ran an awareness campaign and handed out pamphlets with information about domestic and gender-based violence, child neglect, abuse, and human trafficking. We urged the public to remain safe during the festive season. Management of the centre was very happy with this initiative; they commended and thanked the team for their efforts, love and care showed on the day,” Lefakane added.

Colonel Phumelelo Matamela, the Bekkersdal Police station commander also praised everyone who took part in the project.

“I am proud to be counted in! Let us promote and support people living with disabilities,” Matamela added.
