Mohlakeng man to change Africa for the better

Our very own Godfrey Mphatswe from Mohlakeng now holds an African continent title.

Godfrey Mphatswe, 36, was recently crowned Mr Africa International in Nigeria.

The North West-born model and humanitarian moved to Gauteng in 2003 and is now a resident of Mohlakeng. He said this is the biggest honour in his modelling career so far.

In an exclusive interview with the Herald, Godfrey who though he had run his course in beauty pageantry, said the recent achievement illustrated that the industry still held him in high regard.

With big power comes great responsibility and Godfrey is well aware of the challenges lying ahead.

“It is a big responsibility but I’m aware of it. I am planning to join hands with African leaders who are making plans to change their country for the better. I’ve already started touring across Africa to see what needs to be done on this beautiful continent,” Godfrey said.

“I believe it was the power and the glory of my Creator, and I believe I deserve this. I put a tremendous amount of effort into getting where I am, and I will not disappoint,” he said.

In his message to the youth who are passionate about beauty pageantry, Godfrey said they should believe in themselves because there’s a reason they exist.

Do not follow others’ passions and their purposes; instead find your own goals and focus on them. Always be humble when you get on top because the limelight blinds most, so don’t be one of them. Respect others and you’ll go much further than you can imagine,” Godfrey said.
