Man dies in a hail of bullets in Bekkersdal

'We are appealing to the community to come forward with information that could lead to the identification of the victim and locating possible suspects.'

A man believed to be in his early 30s was shot and killed on the infamous Panyapanya Street in Bekkersdal early Monday morning. Members of the community spotted the body.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the unknown victim sustained gunshot wounds to his head, legs and back.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage; however, investigation is under way. We are also urging members of the public to come forward to help identify the body,” Lefakane said.

She said the deceased was wearing navy blue chinos trousers, a light blue T-shirt, black shoes, and had a traditional Zulu bracelet called Isiphandla on his left wrist

“We believe that by identifying the deceased the investigation will unfold, therefore we are appealing to the community to come forward with information that could lead to the identification of the victim and locating possible suspects.

Colonel Phumelele Matamela condemned this kind of behaviour despite efforts to curb the scourge of violence through community outreach programme.

We will not rest until all who are responsible for this incident are brought to book and face the full might of the law,” Matamela said.
