Young Siphokazi crowned Miss Randfontein Junior 2020/21

'The moment was truly surreal when my name was called and I won'.

Siphokazi Sithole made her family and town proud when she was crowned Miss Junior Randfontein 2020/21 at the Ekudeni Exclusive Country Venue in Muldersdrift on Saturday, 21 November.

The 16-year-old Grade 11 learner from Hoërskool Jan Viljoen said she couldn’t believe it when the announcement was made.

“The moment was truly surreal when my name was called and I won. I still can’t believe it,” Siphokazi told the Herald in an exclusive interview.

She said it’s not that she didn’t believe in herself but because the competition she had faced to the finals was quite fierce.

“It’s really easy to think that the judges aren’t impressed. When I did my interview, I showed commitment to my community by giving back and having been involved in assisting the needy. This may have been what boosted my points,” Siphokazi said.

She added she would now be setting her sights on becoming Miss Teen SA and will continue helping needy children in her community.

“I simply want them to know that once you believe in yourself, God will make you shine even more and make you the beacon of hope for all,” she added.

She attributed her success to those who just wanted the best for her. She said she was surrounded by positive vibes, and support from family and friends.

“These are just baby steps, but everyone stood with me through thick and thin.

“I’d like to thank my mother, Amanda Sithole – the entire Sithole clan actually; my coach, Samantha Carelse; my friends; and the community at large for showing faith in me. I thank you and I am happy to have made you proud,” Siphokazi said.
