Copper cable worth R262k recovered: Five arrested

R262 000 worth of copper cable was recovered by railway security.

Five suspects were arrested and copper cable worth R262 000 was recovered thanks to drone technology near Carletonville on Sunday, 1 November.

Warrant Officer Peter Masooa, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, said at about 7pm, the drone operator of the railway security spotted approximately 20 people busy pulling a cable from a railway.

Security reacted and managed to arrest five suspects and recover copper cable worth thousands of rands. The cable was identified by the security manager as belonging to railway.”

According to Masooa, the suspects appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 3 November 2020.
