Vehicle ploughs into group of youngsters: Two killed

Five youths were walking in a street when the vehicle plunged into two of them and sped off – Police.

Two youngsters were killed when they were hit by a vehicle, alleged to be an SUV, on Kopanong Street in Simunye in the early hours of Sunday, 1 November.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the incident happened when five youths were walking on Kopanong Street shortly before the vehicle plunged into two of them and sped off.

The other three escaped without any harm, however, one of the victims died instantly, while the other one succumbed in the Mandela Clinic in Bekkersdal due to extensive injuries,” Lefakane said.

Lefakane added that the suspect is currently unknown but a case of culpable homicide has since been opened.

“We are making an appeal to the community of Simunye to come forward with any information that could lead to the positive identification of the suspect,” Lefakane said.
