Man sentenced to fours years for stabbing another

The sentence was handed down in the Westonaria Magistrates' Court

The 41-year-old Nkosena Mokonyane has been sentenced to four years in prison for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The sentence was handed down in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 19 October.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Mokonyane who is also known as ‘Mayoyo’, was found guilty of stabbing a 20-year-old man on 24 December 2018 in Bekkersdal.

“It is said that the victim was at a local tavern when he was attacked. When he ran out to find help, the accused followed him to continue stabbing him.

“Luckily he was saved by community members who also helped to report the matter to the police,” Lefakane said.

Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani, acting Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded police members and the community for ensuring that justice was served.
