Santa Shoebox project for Wings of Inspiration

With the festive season around the corner, she said the reason they are asking the community to help with the Santa Shoeboxes is that most of the 50 elderly residents and the 35 orphanage children do not have a family.

Wings of Inspiration Care Centre, which is known for their love and care towards adults, also reaches out to underprivileged children.

According to Anthea Da Costa, Director of Wings of Inspiration, they have been operating for four years. They have an orphanage in Roodepoort and a Elderly Care Centre in Randfontein, and they also assist underprivileged families.

With the festive season around the corner, she said the reason they are asking the community to help with the Santa Shoeboxes is that most of the 50 elderly residents and the 35 orphanage children do not have family.

“We would like to give them a present for Christmas, to make them feel special,” said Anthea.

The following can be put in the senior shoebox:

• Basics: Facecloth, bar of soap, soft toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, body lotion, talcum powder, Vaseline, hairbrush or hand cream
• Treats: Small packets of biscuits, chips, soft sweets, biltong, droëwors, small chocolates, sucking sweets, mints, marshmallows or dried fruit dainties

• Ladies optional extras: Lipstick, nail varnish, scarf, necklace, magazine, crossword book, slippers with a grip sole, pyjamas, playing cards or socks

• Men’s optional extras: Aftershave, scarf, magazine, crossword book, slippers with a grip sole, playing cards or socks

The following can be put in the children’s shoebox:

• Clothes
• Toys
• Stationery
• Sweets
• Toothpaste
• Toothbrush

The ages of the children vary from two months to 21 years, and a list of the children’s names are available on request. The box for the elderly can be labelled Granddad or Grandmother, and all the boxes must be wrapped or decorated.

“If you are unable to donate a box, we would gladly collect any old clothing, toys or linen.”

The deadline for the shoeboxes is Friday, 4 December 2020, and they either can be dropped off at 56 Ventersdorp Road, Randfontein, or Anthea will collect them.
