I love my job – no matter what!

'All cleaners are valuable and should be appreciated and treated with the respect they deserve.'

Precious Ndlovu, a dedicated cleaner at Cornerstone Christian School said it did not matter what you do for a living.

She said what matters is that you have a passion for your job, regardless of how insignificant it may seem.

If your heart is not in it, then don’t bother because doing things in half measures is a waste of time,” the proud mother and cleaner said.

Precious, 32, said while her job may be simple, she takes it quite seriously and gives it her all. She added that in actual fact, she likes cleaning so much that every surface has to be spic and span.

“I believe that I have a responsibility to do it properly. I am not ashamed.” She said since 2017, she has been fortunate to be a member of the cleaning staff at the school. She has enjoyed a good relationship with management of the school, and she sees the children she meets in the corridors as her friends.

Management of the school has never made me feel like I’m a nobody and just a cleaner; instead I feel like I’m part of the school, an actual staff member who is expected to fulfil my duties, just like the teachers of the school,” Precious said.

While she admits that she may not be academically inclined or gifted, she said nothing makes her happier than being able to put food on the table for her loved ones.

“The problem is that people tend to get embarrassed; thinking that others are looking down on you because you are a cleaner. People may think that cleaners are less worthy, but trust me; our job is more meaningful and important than you could ever imagine.

“No one wants to live or work in a place that’s untidy, so in that regard all cleaners are valuable. They should be appreciated and treated with the respect they deserve. Let us do the best job we can,” Precious said.
