Residents of Gemsbok Road and Kameel Street in Greenhills are unhappy about a number of municipal issues not being addressed despite honouring their monthly rates and taxes.
If it’s not an open manhole or dangerous tree branch in driveways, then there are leaking pipes. Residents say they are being treated unfairly by the municipality and they have been pleading far too long to have their problems solved.
One of the residents, Themba Matshidiso said trees in his street are overgrown. Not only do they look unkempt, they also pose a risk.
One of our neighbours, a woman, once found strange men lurking under the trees at night,” Matshidiso said.
He went on to say this problem had been reported to the Mayor’s office and executive staff members, including management of the Parks Department, yet nothing has been done.
“We, the residents are paying rates and taxes but the municipality can hardly provide us with these basic services and maintenance in our neighbourhoods.”
He added that the exposed manhole poses a constant threat, especially to children.
The municipality always discourages people to trim the trees and say it is their responsibility, by they fail to do their duties,” Matshidiso said.
