West Rand District Police make another 254 arrests

Police across the West Rand District were involved in another Okae Molao operation where 254 arrests were made.

Police in the West Rand District again joined forces on Thursday, 17 September and managed to arrest over 250 suspects during another Okae Molao operation held in the Carletonville and Khutsong areas.

According to Captain Eddie Boboko, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, the focus of the operation was on roadblocks, rural safety, crime prevention, and compliance of liquor and second-hand goods outlets.

As we are approaching the festive season, we are firmly committed to developing and enhancing strategies that will help fight crime with various stakeholders around the West Rand,” Boboko said.

He said among the charges brought against suspects were murder; gender-based violence; attempted murder; robbery; theft of motor vehicles; undocumented immigrants and foreign nationals; possession of illegal substances; malicious damage to property; theft; intimidation; kidnapping; drinking and driving; contempt of court; fraud; rape; and assault. 

All arrested suspects will appear in the Oberholzer and Khutsong Magistrates’ Courts soon.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner thanked all those who took part in the operation to help communities to feel safe, and to make sure that those who break the law are brought to book.

Kekaba also urged the community to report any form of gender-based violence to the police on the Crime Stop Hotline 08600 10111 or at the nearest police station.
