From Grade 4 to 5 in a jiff!

Randfontein Christian Academy’s twins are school heroes after they completed a grade in just six months!

Randfontein Christian Academy’s twins, Nyiko and Nkateko Mathebula are school heroes after they completed a grade in just six months.

Despite the lockdown and fewer school days, these 10-year-olds completed their Grade 4 year with an average of 80 per cent for all their subjects. They are starting their Grade 5 year this week!

Vanessa Dreyer, RCA spokesperson said the twins have set a good example to other learners of the school that no matter what obstacles one may face, anything is possible.

“We use an individualised system in which every child can work at his or her own pace. So depending on how well they can grasp the curriculum, they can move to the next grade if they can perform as the twin sisters have,” Vanessa said.

Vanessa praised the duo for remaining focused on their school work and making an extra effort, even in lockdown.

“They were dedicated to their school work because they did not sit at home playing and watching TV; that is what is inspiring about them.

“We are proud because despite not coming to school for a long time, they managed to complete the entire curriculum without leaving anything out,” Vanessa said.

According to Dr Chris Ayre, RCA principal, “This is a big achievement; not only for them, but for the entire school as well”.

He added that the twins have inspired others in the school. “They now can say that if others can do it, they can do it too.”

Zandile Mathebula, a teacher by profession and the twins’ mother, said she is proud of her daughters and lauded the school’s Foundation Phase educators.

“The curriculum also encouraged them to set goals for themselves, continue to work hard and complete the year. I’m really proud to see my daughters finishing a grade in advance – I never thought they would do it,” the proud mother said.
