Calling all sportswomen to let it shine

Women around South Africa are invited to spread a little sunshine by entering the virtual challenge.

We all need a little sunshine in our lives and SPAR has the answer – sign up for the SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge on 26 September 2020!

Since the entire SPAR Women’s Challenge series for 2020 has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, SPAR is organising a Virtual Challenge. Women around South Africa are invited to spread a little sunshine by entering this challenge.

Proteas netball captain Bongi Msomi, who supports the race, said, “SPAR has done so much for women’s sport and they’ve been contributing some great initiatives over the years. Certainly, my sport, netball, would not have prospered the way it has without SPAR’s support.

“I have taken part in the SPAR challenge series and a number of their other events – mainly because I love the vibe of the SPAR Challenge and the family culture they have. Always fun to be part of their events.

So I am challenging my fellow netball Proteas – and other sportswomen – to spread a little sunshine by entering this Virtual Challenge.

“We might not be able to be together with our teammates and friends but we can still use a day like this one to have fun and even have our own group targets that we can share on social media on the say.”

On 26 September, people who have entered can run, jog, walk, skip or even dance their own challenge at their own pace, along their own route, and complete it at any time between 6am and 6pm. They then share their experience on social media, using the hashtags #BeSunshine or#SPARVirtualChallenge. The organisers are hoping to set a world record for the number of entrants in a women’s virtual challenge.

For an entry fee of only R50, each entrant will receive a challenge T-shirt, a buff and a challenge magazine. But that’s not all – for every entry, SPAR will donate a food parcel to a survivor of gender-based violence (GBV).

Entering the SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge is easy – enter online at www.sparvirtualchallenge.co.za. Participants can collect their challenge packs at their chosen SPAR store from two weeks before the virtual challenge, or it can be delivered by courier at a nominal extra fee.
