The Bikers, Toekomsrus Covid-19 scheme bring more relief

Approximately 50 families – 30 in Mohlakeng and 20 in Toekomsrus – benefited from another joint initiative between bikers and the Toekomsrus Covid-19 Feeding Scheme held on Saturday, 25 July.

According to Dawood Rabie, the president of The Bikers – which consists of two motorcycle clubs, namely Throttle Divaz and Skeem Sam – the project was made possible by bikers from various clubs across Gauteng, adding that no specific club could take credit for it.

“In Mohlakeng, we worked with some pastors to identify needy families, and in Toekomsrus we worked with the Toekomsrus Covid-19 Feeding Scheme to bring some relief,” he explained.

According to Thokozani Fakude, one of the bikers from as far as Daveyton in Ekurhuleni, the act of reaching out might be small but it makes a big difference in someone’s life.

It is someone’s bread and butter. We are just bikers from different regions who love to contribute.

“It is money from our own pockets. We identify an area where we can go and donate food parcels. We actually started this Kasi to Kasi (area to area) charity run project during Level 5 lockdown to help fight poverty.

“As bikers we care about communities and we wish we could do more. We are doing it out of passion; we have no hidden agenda. We got a request from the bikers in that area. With the little we have, we thought we should come here and give it to the community,” he said.

Oscar Oliphant, spokesperson for the Toekomsrus Covid-19 Feeding Scheme said they have fed 23 000 people with the help of sponsors and donors.

“Just two weeks ago, we had a sanitary products drive for which The Bikers donated to our scheme. We are grateful that they chose us. We wish and hope that this is not the last time seeing you,” he said.
