Big name municipal official tests positive for Covid-19

"He met with the community of Mohlakeng hostel and Mohlakeng Extension 7, and some individual members of the community."

Tshidiso Tlharipe, spokesperson for the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the Executive Mayor, Brenda Mahuma, Tlharipe was tested on Thursday, 2 July and he received confirmation that he was infected on Sunday, 5 July.

“We urge anyone who might have had contact with Mr Tlharipe to go to the nearest clinic to be tested,” Mahuma said.

She added that Tlharipe has had an integral part in restoring electricity in Mohlakeng and Toekomsrus, and might have come in contact with many people. “He met with the community of Mohlakeng hostel and Mohlakeng Extension 7, and some individual members of the community.

“We are doing this in the interest of the community to observe the regulations as governed by World Health Organization (WHO) and South African Health Ministry,” Mahuma said.

The mayor said Tlharipe will remain in isolation for 14 days and the entire municipality wishes him a speedy recovery.
