Praise, worship and hot food at first church service

'We want to thank government for allowing us to conduct church services again' – pastor.

Anchor Of Hope Ministries in Mohlakeng was one of the many churches that continued it services again under Level 3 lockdown regulations, after a two-month break.

Pastor Winston Mokone from the church, who is a former professional boxer and now a coach, said that he was elated by the news.

“We want to thank government for allowing us to conduct church services again. We did meet the required protocols of less than 50 congregants at our first service, and we sanitized the premises. We also did not allow anyone without a mask to enter the church, and we observed the social-distancing rules.”

Hot dogs and warm tea were given to children from around Stoffel Thejane Street.

That day they also launched their feeding scheme campaign by handing out hot dogs and warm tea to children from around Stoffel Thejane Street, and meal packs to adults at the nearby hostel.

“This outreach campaign has been an ongoing part of our ministry. We have been doing this long before the lockdown. We thank Superfecta Foods and PS100 for donating all that we offered to the less privileged – this is part of our duty as a church.

“We have been conducting outreach programmes, and a praise and worship event at the hostel where there are physical and spiritual needs. We believe that life on its own is spiritual; this is what informs our ministry of giving to the less privileged. We, however, need more partnerships like we have with Superfecta Foods and PS100 as we rely on such donations.”

In terms of sport, Pastor Mokone said he is not lost to the sport of boxing and will assist in the development with amateurs and pros.
