Two arrested for burglary at school

The education of our children is everybody’s business – station commander.

Two men from Simunye, aged 35 and 39, were arrested last Friday in connection with burglaries at schools.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, detective Constable Themba Shongwe and detective Constable Patrick Marumo, both assigned to investigate all property-crime incidents, were investigating a burglary that occurred at a school between 10 and 11 June. They received information about someone who was hiding a smart board inside his room, which was suspected to be the one stolen from that particular school.

She said the members swiftly responded to the information and they arrested him. He led them to his accomplice.

The pair were arrested immediately and charged with business burglary as well as being in possession of stolen property.”

They are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.

“Investigations continues into other similar cases,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

Colonel Phumelele Matamela, the new Bekkersdal Police station commander thanked members for their swift reaction, and the community for the information that led to the arrests.

“The education of our children is everybody’s business. Let us join hands in the fight against crime, as fighting crime begins with all of us,” she said.
