Increase in break-ins, theft during the last weekend in May

'We have also noticed an increase in break-in and theft over the weekend, particularly in the agricultural areas' – EPR.

EPR Security released its crime report for the last weekend of May.

According to Johan Krogh, General Manager of EPR West Rand, 19 crime incidents were reported across Rand West City during the period Friday, 29 May to Sunday, 31 May.

“We saw an increase in theft of gate motors and gate-motor parts, especially in Greenhills where three gate motors had either been damaged or stolen,” he said.

He added there were also four incidents of break-ins – two business break-ins in Glenharvie and Greenhills respectively, as well as two house break-ins in Westonaria and Hillside respectively, while there was one attempted break-in incident in Westonaria.

“We have also noticed an increase in break-in and theft over the weekend, particularly in the agricultural areas around Randfontein, such as Randfontein South and the Hillside plots,” he said.

In addition, Krogh said there were three incidents of damage to property in Aureus, Greenhills and at the Randfontein South plots, as well as two of trespassing in Hillside and Vogelstruisfontein.
