Two new Covid-19 cases brings total in Rand West City to 17

Gauteng Provincial Government's latest breakdown of Covid-19 cases shows six new cases on West Rand.

Rand West City reported two new confirmed Covid-19 cases as at Saturday, 23 May, bringing the total to 17 cases.

Mogale City and Merafong City, which are also part of the West Rand District, have 51 and 11 cases respectively. There are seven unallocated cases in this District as well. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the West Rand District to 86, with 47 recoveries and three deaths. In terms of recoveries, Rand West City remains at 10, Mogale City at 33 and Merafong City at four.

In the neighbouring City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality Region C, which comprises Roodepoort, the number of confirmed cases stands at 107, with 83 recoveries.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 2 633, with 1 880 recoveries and 29 deaths. At the time of print, 88 people were being treated for the virus in public and private hospitals in the province.

By 24 May, South Africa had a total of 22 583 positive, confirmed Covid-19 cases with 11 100 recoveries and 429 deaths.

In terms of deaths, the Western Cape (281) has the most deaths, followed by the Eastern Cape (58), KwaZulu-Natal (48) and then Gauteng (29).
