Police finally apprehend suspect on the run for seven years

Police finally arrested a 25-year-old suspect in central Kagiso for housebreaking and theft, which was committed in August 2012.

According to a statement by Kagiso Police spokesperson, the complainant allegedly left his place of residence at about 5.30am on 31 August 2012 to report for work. The door to his room, which is attached to the main house, was locked and the windows properly closed when he left.

On the same day when the complainant returned from work, he found that his room had been broken into and ransacked. A firearm safe containing his lawful firearm, two jackets, a pair of designer shoes, ID book and a cell phone were all missing.

He was informed that the suspect who stayed in the main house had gone to Soweto.

One of the other tenants in the yard told him that he had seen the suspect leaving early that morning.

Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna said the matter was referred to the Kagiso police and the case docket of housebreaking and theft was registered.

“Kagiso Police launched a manhunt for the suspect who had since gone in hiding. He was however cornered and apprehended recently after the police got a tip-off that he was seen in the area,” said Maduna.

The 25-year-old suspect has been detained at Kagiso Police Station where he is facing charges of housebreaking and theft.

He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
