A small team of inspectors from both the National Council of SPCAs and Randwest SPCA recently held a joint crime-prevention campaign over three days at four townships across Rand West City.
The inspectors visited Zenzele, Bekkersdal, Bora and Simunye.
Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), police and metro police were also involved to maintain law and order.
Janette Muller, Randwest SPCA acting chairperson who is also the Society’s liaison officer, explained the initiative. “We educated the public, assisted animals and their owners with emergency medical care and food, conducted property checks, removed or rescued animals from dangerous circumstances, issued warnings, and laid cruelty charges in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.”
She applauded RCL Foods and the Krugersdorp Lions Club for their generous animal food donations that the inspectors were able to hand out to animal owners.
